Miss Firing Question?

Post: # 16945Post VultureNo2 »

I've have the Vulture sitting for about 2 months but got out today. I had a hard time starting the GT200. I noticed gas dripping from the lowest carb at a slow but steady drip. I did get it idling but it continues to make a sound like it was loading up on fuel and sneezing. I was running without the cowling and when it sneezed, gas would shoot from that carb. When I tries to plane it off, it was bogging down. I was able to keep it running well enough to fog it, but it was running really bad. All summer it ran great once on plane, but really soft on start and idling poorly. Similar sneezing kind of noise and it would die. then start right back up. Any advice would be great. Thanks, Bill

Sounds like you need to pull the carbs and give em a good cleaning. Even after 2 months gas will really break down now. My motorcycle did the same thing almost. It ran great then 2 1/2 months later I couldnt hardly keep it running and a good carb cleaning and ran like a champ again.

Its a start. Maybe Chet will surprise us and chime in and give ya a hand or someone else.

Thanks Hippie.

Hope that's all it is. Is there a thread on cleaning the carb's? I'd like to know more about fixing motors but I am mechanically challenged. Imagine that, a computer guy who knows noting about motors I might take a class if I can find one. Can I improve the hole shot and/or power by replacing the carb's? If so, anyone have a SE WI place they trust to look over my engine for a reasonable price?

Also, I might have put too much stable in for the amount of gas I had. Could that be part of my issue?

Its not the best quality but right click and select save as - http://www.hippie459mn.com/downloads/1973-1989_Johnson_Evinrude_Outboard_Service_Manual_48-235_Hp.pdf

That should help ya. I actually found this online a while back while looking up some stuff for my motor and it has helped me big time.
