The problem with not replaceing the stringers .First you probly have rot on the bottum of the stringers you cant see caused by the old rotten core second the wood has lifed in a harse enviroment it hole life and if it isnt rotten it probly has lost its strength or could be dry rotted plus you already have it exposed so why not fix it right so you dont have to open her up again and if it has been out in the rain all summer it well have water in it would be my bet your so close alittle more itchy scratchy and it well all be out  . In the long run it way worth replacing it all the right way stick with her and you well be rewarded in the end with a boat that wasnt made with a cookie cut a.k.a rinker bayliner crownline searay you get the picture. Grind on my young friend grind on if you need some insperation Judas Preist has a song called grinder you could jam while you grind

Serious injury or death.

The pad is where the core is most rotten, frequently, the balsa is missing entirely. The area where the hull is under the most stress, is from the transom to about 4 feet foward, about 30 inches wide.
