New Viper Owner
Hello to all! I have been looking for a deal on a Hydrostream for years and finally got one! I have missed out on 5 different Vipers for various reasons, but I have one now. It's a 1980, and it is in pretty bad shape. I have it blocked up in the yard now. The guy I got it from just wanted the trailer to build a BBQ pit! $200 for hull, title, 1150 Merc and title. Not too bad I guess.
The worst part is they painted the top half yellow. The bottom appears to be black gel. Around the corners of the transom where the paint has flaked off, there are little blue flakes in the black. I think it was originally a bruiser. It is going to have to be recored and floored I'm sure. It has aluminum on both sides of the transom, so I guess it's going to need a transom too. It needs a windshield and frame (I guess I'll take my place at the end of the line), and will have to be re-rigged as well (single cable steer now). I guess you can't expect too much for 200 bucks!
What is the best thing to use for a rub rail if I end up splitting it?

If you take your time taking it off you can put it back on I just took some off my Viper and put it in my Valero so I could sell it .

Re: New Viper Owner
Well, I just got the paperwork, and it turns out this hull is a Skeeter Odyssey. It looks like a 100% splash of a viper. Apparently it has some aluminum corner pieces to increase the beam enough for it to be rated for 150 hp. Don't know if it would even be worth fixing. Not sure if a stream windshield would fit it. What do you guys think?

Re: New Viper Owner
Also, look at the HIN on it. If it is a Hydrostream it will start with an HSP

Re: New Viper Owner
Hey, fellow Texan, welcome to the forum.
Ya, Skeeter splashed the Deckboat too ("Sweet Thang"). Anyway, there are a lot of Skeeters near Shreveport as that's where they started.
The Odyssey is known to be fast. Does it have the concave pad like a Viper?

Re: New Viper Owner
I remember seeing that ad a few years back and I forgot all about them. There was a company that splashed the Vector as well but forgot the name of the company that made them.
RussF has a vking splash my Thunderstream that is a really solid looking boat but dont think they are making them anymore due to lack of interest/buyers but I could be wrong. Russ could fill you in better on these guys.
