If you haven't yet I would check the carbs and make sure they are clean. If it doesn't idle without choke it's lean and can cause the motor to burn down.

Thanks, carbs were checked after the water was found. Running premix and injection until certain it's working...really rich. Adjusted idle to about 1100 on land. Plan to replace plugs and adjust idle in water. Main problem, overheating, seems to be solved w/ dual bypass hoses. Only gets hot when I go full throttle for an extended period. Normal? Back off and fine. It planes instantly...amazing boat :0)

Not normal.

Your motor was designed to run in much hotter conditions then you are in now. Overheating could be caused by the cooling water going through the engine too fast. It doesn't have time to transfer the heat. Of course, it could also be caused by a small restriction (before the sending unit) too.
If 77Viper or someone else doesn't comment soon, you might pose this problem to the guys at S&F. I've usually gotten good repair advice there.

..love your enthusiasm, man. There's nothin' like gettin' a new, used Hydrostream, is there? ;)

I guess I missed that.
As Surface scratcher said there is still a problem.
Do you have a water press gauge?
Are you running thermostats?
Do you have a temp gauge or how are you determining your temp?
Water press should be 1-3 at idle and 12 psi at wide open, this is minimal. I have 27psi at 6500.

I have been fighting a 150 opti that has 0 water press at idle and only 1.8 at 1000 rpm. I have replaced the imp and housing. Checked the brass water tube and grommet in the adapter plate as well as the thermostats and popit valve. I them pulled the powerhead and adapter plate and still has no press. Mercury just sent a new adapter plate thinking there might be a casting flaw. At this time I have 8 hours into the thing and don't have much hair to pull out.
