question on a 84 vector

Post: # 6305Post YDOC462 »

first of all i just wanna say this site kicks @##! i spend hours on end reading and learning about streams. ever since my dad had a 81 viper ive always wanted one. i am preparing myself for the long haul of a restore project and all the info ive found here (sometimes overwhelming!!) has been very helpful.

Image
heres the boat!! :D

heres my question: i have found a junk pile rescue vector that the owner has started the removal of all the rot. the owner says it has the original core and stringers. you can see the stringers have disappeared and just a fiberglass box is left, or that what it appears to me as. does this look factory to yall? the reason i ask is i know it would be easier removing the factory "ROT" rather than removing someone elses " quick fix" and it might sway me on taking on the project.

it does look like someone poured 200 gallons of resin on top the core!! :o
would this be easily removed by scraping the core off where every thing come with it, or is 6 years of grinding gonna be necessary?

any info will help

thanks

I don't know if the vectors had a tunnel for the stringers. I know the vultures had something simular. My v king didn't have a tunnel, just stringers. Good project boat though. Nice and rotten so teardown will be easy!!!! Good luck  :boating:

Just my opinion but the more rotted the better. The next one we get we talked about drilling holes down to the core and filling it with water and letting it set for a few months. LOL!!! Nice boat. Do it justice. Do it right and don't cut any corners. Once you do one it will be in your blood. Sounds like it already is though. I've had my eye on a Vulture that is for sale in your area. Here is the link.

I have to agree the more rot the easier it is to remove, however you stated someone added resin. I wouldn't think it's a big deal until I helped Hippie with his. Someone poured resin over 1" think on the outside of the stringers that is going to be a major pain to get off.

I would say if you can get it cheap enough go for it.

I've read yalls thread and hippie will prolly get mad about this but I'm trading the owner straight up for a vulture in the same condition I purchased a few months ago. I also recently bought a house and the vulture won't fit in the garage, so I've had my eye out to find a vector or viking, a model that I can have and keep at my house to work on. The few feet will make things easier. killing two birds w one stone!
Yeah that's right! Keeping the rotting junked up stream in the garage, the new
truck can stay outside!

My renter has been trying to get his new truck in the garage for 2 years, but between the stream projects and parts there isn't any room.

At least down there you should have plenty of worm weather to work on it, although grinding is a lot better once the temp drops and the layers of cloths get added.

Then you won't be needing the link to your Vulture then. Fitting in the garage is critical. My Vulture fits. No room for cars in my garage.

yeah bill, thats my vulture! lol really love it, think the bus makes a unique boat. tons of room!! a lil more than the garage.

viper, me born and raised in texas, dont know how yall handle the cold weather. I THINK MY BRAIN WOULD FREEZE! and the whiskey already slows it up enough.
my hopes are to get the boat soon and get prepped for grinding as the cooler weather comes in. not gonna kill myself on a unrealistic deadline. hopefully get every thing cleaned up this winter to put the new material in this spring.
