Re: Project Hydrostream Vulture
My reason for sending my boat to Brian to "redo" is that while I had started it and was close to being done, then it went into storage for a short while and there was a situation with the building it was in and the boat filled up with snow and water and it wrecked all the fresh core that had been laid and another big factor was, I no longer had an indoor space to work on it, weather permanent or temporary and that and being a truck driver and a single father, at all came down to time. When im not at work, I have my kid and now that he is 9 years old its not so tough but when he was a lot younger, it was big time! Had Brian not finished it for the 2nd time, it would still be sitting out in my yard still not finished or even close to where it is now. I recently moved back to one of our houses we had been renting for the past 8 years and I have a garage again and a place for all my tools and what not and I didnt have that for the last 10 years. So yeah, if you have the time, money, space, and resources, you can certainly do this project yourself, I just didnt the time or space to get it done myself, again, at that point. I can not thank Brian enough for his help getting it finished to where it is now. Plus he does outstanding work. He is right in Janseville WI and he is the king when it comes to restoring these hydrostreams. He can build them in his sleep.

Re: Project Hydrostream Vulture
I know it might not look like much to some but a little bit of progress is better than no progress. Finally got new wheels on my other engine stand and got the plate drilled out then custom made my own OMC lifting ring. The best part was, I had everything here so it didn't cost me a dime and it worked perfect! Then got it on the stand. Now I can get to cleaning this thing up and get to working on it. I'm going to cut the lifting ring plate down a bit just to look better but for now, it served its purpose perfectly.
Now I just need work to pick up so I can afford to kick this thing in to high gear and see if it floats. LoL

Re: Project Hydrostream Vulture
When I took the cowl off when it was laying on the pallet, there was a huge pile of home insulation in there and lots of mouse poop. Sadly, I found a few stray wires that I dont know where they go that are no longer attached to anything and I'm thinking a mouse or two may have been the culprit. Im going to work on all that this weekend as there are a lot of butt connectors in there so try and get some of them cleaned up and maybe try to get that lower unit off. Hopefully its not too tough.
Rj, Know anyone close by that might have a jig for drilling the transom? I just want to make sure the holes end up straight and in the right spot.

Re: Project Hydrostream Vulture
Little more progress today. This is where I started. Just an empty dash.
Got all the gauges in with the new black bezels (no more red ones!), one switch (my second one was the wrong one so got the right one in the way), and the ignition switch.
And also got my shifter all bolted down. It's not going anywhere! Looks like I'm actually getting somewhere here.
That's all for today really but stay tuned cause there will be more to come...

Re: Project Hydrostream Vulture
Well, two more pieces of the puzzle for the dash showed up today. Nothing to get too excited about, well, I am.
My horn button showed up. Yup, I'm going to put a horn in this thing so I don't need a canned air horn.
I didn't have a decorative washer/bezel deal for the horn button like everything else so I made one from a washer and painted it. Turned out darn good if you ask me.
Also, the other switch showed up for the dash as well and got that put in. The exterior of the dash is done, for now. Im going to figure something out for filling the two bottom holes in the dash tomorrow. I have an idea that I think will work perfect.
Now to get my fuse panel made up and figure out where to put it and wire up everything I can under there.
Going to hopefully get the fuel tank reconfigured and get that mounted. Or I should say get the mounts done for it. Still have to sort out the steering too. So much to do still yet I feel like I'm so close. LoL
