How many stages were there to the Virage? Was each one faster? I've only seen one.
Like Hip said, 4, although only 3 were actually produced by Hydrostream, the stage 4 was left in the mould when the doors closed. I don't know if you can say one is faster than the other, the different stages were produced to "loosen" up the boat as I understand it. The stage 1 has full length outer sponsons, stage 2 introduced a step in the outer sponsons about 3 feet ahead of the transom, and mine has a notch cut out of that step so there's only 2 knife edges left. I love the way this thing runs, can't wait to get some real power on it.

Pretty sure that's the one Ron Pratt (alaskastreamin) owns now. When he bought it directly from Howard a few years back, they pulled the deck and hull out of the molds after sitting in them for over 20 years, set them together, and Ron brought the boat back home to Alaska. Or maybe it his Washington place and started putting it together and it came out beautifully! Either way, Ron got the very last Virage ever produced by Hydrostream right from Howard himself.

Pretty sure that's all correct. And the mould with the stage 4 plugs went to an Aaron in your area Hip? There was a flat black one built, it sold this summer. I wanted it but couldn't make the drive. I haven't even seen the difference between a stage 3 and 4....

Aaron does have some Virage molds. I don't know if they are the stage 3 or 4 molds though and that flat black one he built and ran for a couple years. Thing was awesome and built solid. Aaron is also the one who recently did my lower unit for me. Aaron is a great guy. He will build you a new Virage, if you got the money. LoL
Here is my lower he just did for me.

Would be cool to know if he has the inserts for the stage 4 build. I'm sure the flat black one with the tan interior and 150hp Merc was advertised as a stage 4.
