Those cricuts are handy little machines. A friend of mine owns one and I've had a few decals made up.

Just found this thread and am I glad I did. I also bought an '89 Voyager last summer. Thanks for sharing the rebuild process. Very educational. Cheers and great work!

Re: New project- 89 Voyager
Update:
Got the interior all stitched up ( that post is in the interior forum)
I got my block back from the machine shop, bored all six to .015 over. Bought new pistons and a gasket set from ProMarine. Sent injectors off to be checked and cleaned.
It had low compression on 4&6. The injectors weren’t bad so still curious why it scored .
Hung power head, got my 1/2” pipe tap and drill bit so I could finish the nose cone plumbing. I painted the lower with some left over Dodge silver and clear coat .
Getting real close now.
My carpet is at a Phil’s place. He’s 3 hours away so I’ll get it when it’s holding me up.
Still need to assemble seat sliders & swivels and mount seats so I can position the foot throttle. Then run the engine.

Re: New project- 89 Voyager
Got the lower unit back on. A neat trick I do to control the alignment is to use a ratchet strap to hold the lower. If the driveline splines don’t align just add a little pressure and now your free to move flywheel. Same for shift shaft.
I installed my homemade drag plate with “elevator bolts” .
I really like these fasteners. They are found at true value / ACE hardware stores in the nut& bolt isle. They are in the stacked specialty boxes. They have a large flat head so no need for a washer.
The carrier nut hadn’t been torqued yet as my wrench goes to 180# and the nut is 210#.
With the lower mounted, I called a friend with a wrench that would work.

Re: New project- 89 Voyager
Well the first hour on the water was great. Then a little rattle so I shut her down. Pulled plugs. #6 looked dry and powdery.
Towed to launch ramp to be safe. Pulled head and #6 detonated!!
Now to figure out why. This motor has an ignition ECU and a fuel ECU. A crank sensor& throttle position sensor tell the computer where to set timing. No trigger on these.
I indexed the flywheel for all 6 cylinders marking 0* and 25*
Timing is supposed to be checked with motor running at full throttle. Well how the hell am I gonna do that? Maybe tied down on trailer at ramp-.....at night so I can see the timing light???? Most likely...
I tried it with the starter and they were all between the 0 & 25 marks.
Powerhead is broke down and at the machine shop getting a .005 hone. It was at .015 and some light scoring will come out with the hone. I’ll get a .020 piston and do some more testing..
