Hi everyone,

Finally our weather changed from Rain, rain and more rain to the odd day of sun. We started with patching some lingering holes. We are using 3/4 oz. fiberglass matt and we are wondering if we should be using the heavier stuff. You can get a woven type fiberglass which is very heavy. Once we put the resin on it seems quite thin and the light shows through very easily compared to the painted parts. If we are using the right stuff then how many layers do you think we need?













This part is us putting in the two beams. We put a layer of 3/4 oz. fiberglass matt and resin and then put the beams down on top. We left enough of the matt on each side without resin so that we can wrap that part up the sides of the beams with resin in our next step. We used some weight to keep the beams in place and temporary spacers. We are quite happy that we are finally putting stuff back in the boat versus tearing out, this is making us very happy!

Hello everyone!
It's time to finally get back at the restoration of my 1974 Vector! I created a new thread last year looking for help regarding a material list and places people have sourced there material. Greatly appreciate all the help and replies.

Although I was delayed another year... or two i guess... (After checking that was from 2020...) where does the time go..

But now I finally have a proper place to do the restoration!! (Finally bought first home and of course requirent was a garage! )

Today I figured I'd re-ignite this thread get everyone up to date and hopefully with help from everyone here I can finally start heading in the right direction again.

Below you can see the new DRY living space for the Vector and finally somewhere I can properly start the restoration with out worrying about rain/weather.

I have lots of questions and appreciate any and all feedback/tips/tricks along the process. I will be taking lots of photos and hoping to video document the rebuild as well.

I was asked by @AdamDK about the "rubrail" that is currently on the boat. Seems to be a water hose cut length wise and screwed onto the edge..
Sadly the original is not underneath.

Seems as the boat may have been split before or is in the process of coming apart... Does anyone have any idea what the best method from here would be? Should i split the two and start fresh or is it not as bad as it looks

May be going for the record of longest rebuild of a hydrostream and Thank you! Deffinitly been a long time coming.

Do you have any advice about the pictures above? Not sure if I have much choice but feel like I will have to split the hull to clean up the mess that was hiding under the "rubrail".

If the split is required is a cradle an absolute must?

Yikes! Yeah, someone really boogered that up. I would say you are going to have to completely split that to fix it. Its best so the hull will hold its shape. If you do the core and floor with the cap off and dont support it good, they may not line up when you go to put it back together.

Yikes! Yeah, someone really boogered that up. I would say you are going to have to completely split that to fix it. Its best so the hull will hold its shape. If you do the core and floor with the cap off and dont support it good, they may not line up when you go to put it back together.

Seems to be a common occurrence with this boat.. but I guess that just gives me the chance to do it right and revive the boat back to its original glory.

I was afraid to hear the split is required, although after seeing it i figured it would be. Deffinitly a little daunting but hopefully won't be to bad to split. On the plus side I won't have to do the re core climbing up into the bow now haha.

May be a dumb questions but should the two edges line up even all the way around or does one slightly over lap the other. Reason I ask is a few spots now the bottom is out further then the top and vise versa or perfectly flush.
