CORE AS A FLOOR

I want to start a discussion that I find useful for us all here. Using a floor in your boat that is made of a core material... I always wanted to try this, so during the build on Plum Loco, I gave it a shot. I found that a core floor work absolutely perfect for a hydrostream. There is not a wide span that it needs to run before it is supported be both the stringers and the hull connection. Therefore, you cannot even tell the difference between plywood or core. I want to offer my experience to suggest if your primary interest is to have a high performance boat, it would save you some weight. I do feel that a small base made of wood is necessary for seat mounting, which adds only a small bit of weight, but the savings over the length of the hull is massive. I found that only one layer of 1708 on each side was enough to walk on, and after glassing in and some cure time, its perfect. Save weight guys, the performance will speak for itself.
