Minnesota guys, or anyone close
As some of you know I'm involved with the upper midwest powerboat association. We are a group of boaters that get together and have fun. I started with the club in my 55mph bass boat and had a blast with everyone so it's not like you have to have the latest and greatest to have fun. As of now we get together about once a month on a lake and do a little testing "racing" and a lot of BSing.
We do have two races a year one in Omaha NE, and one in Fairmont Mn. The races are not all that serious, there are no pay outs and it's a 2 round knock out, so you are guaranteed at least 2 runs. There are classes for boats running 60 MPH up to over 110 in the 1/4 mile, last year we had everything from a I/O baja, a couple v-drive BB and allison xr drag. There are about 10 hydrostreams in the club as well. There is a fee to race to cover the cost of insurance and to have a full safty crew with divers and ambulance.
I guess the reason for this long post is I'm trying to get new guys in the club first and secondly I'm trying to start another race in Northern Mn. I'm looking into Big Sandy lake in McGregor Mn for our new event but would like to get more boats in the race.
Sorry about my poor writing skills but hay I'm sure you get the point. Here is a little more info http://umpba.org/

I will be going up there next week to meet with the owner of Eagles point and work on some detales. The one problem we see is the lake association. If Big Sandy doesn't work out I will be in contact with you about Minnewawa.

Re: Minnesota guys, or anyone close
I had a meeting with Terry, the owner of Eagles point resort on big sandy lake today. This is my first experience trying to do anything like this so I was a bit nervous to say the least.
As soon as I got there we took my truck out on the lake to see if the location would work. My good old lowrance 520 would show temp but no depth but I think we found a great place to set up with the finish line right in front of the bar. After a nice drive on the lake in the rain we went inside and chatted about what we would need from him and what we would provide.
In the end we came up with a date of July 10th for the date. the race will be at the eagles point with registration and a boat show Friday night at Mark bar. Terry from eagles point and Sherlie from marks bar are super excited to be a part of this and should be a great help.
I will keep updating this as things progress, as of now it's still being planed and can change until we go to the sheriff and get our permit.
This picture is from in front of the bar looking down the boat landing.
This one is about where the starting line will be, with the finish line about where the grass is on the left.

Looks good! Dont forget to put it in the calendar here when the dates are set. I hope to knock my boat out super fast so maybe I can have it up there to spectate from the water.
