Re: ‘89 HST rebuild ( Blown out bottom)
Thanks to you Glenn for chatting on messenger and sharing pictures of your HST build.
One thing we were discussing that I rectified was that silly deck to hull overlap going across the transom.
That extra fiberglass in the overlap created a large lip for a jack plate to sit on and not against the transom.
Glenn ( Big boy) shaped some plywood to create a flat surface and Ron Flood has an aluminum plate to bring the upper transom out to the overlap level.
The lower bolt holes go thru the overlap so there’s still an issue below that area to address.
The easiest solution was to remove this strip and glass the two outer skins together.
This now allows the inside to be perfectly flush.

I’m going to try to use a corrugated plastic campaign sign as a core on the wind screen.
I’ll report if it will hold up to the resin.

Re: ‘89 HST rebuild ( Blown out bottom)
Little catch up after a week of being sick.
Transom and knee braces installed , transom seam V’d out and glassed back ( now it’s straight top to bottom!!!!!) boat flipped , molds pulled, deck to hull overlap filled with 3M-5200.put a light in my caulking gun to see in the gap. (Both surfaces were roughed up before the deck went back on.)

Re: ‘89 HST rebuild ( Blown out bottom)
Spent 4 hours grinding the bottom. Mainly removing gelcoat. There was some delaminating in the corners where the center sponson meets the tunnel top. Both sides.
About 10’ each side in the 1/2” radius. Great fun carefully sweeping 24 grit to remove the bad.
Laid in chop glass strips.
It appears the boat was removed from the embankment with a boom truck!!
The area around the bow eye was fractured pretty good . Inside the hull all looked good. Had to remove quite a bit of material before repairing.
