Re: Pipkorn Hustler / craigslist
That is a hustler and has nothing to do with hydrostream what so ever and never did. The guy that used to build then still has hustler marine in McHenry Illinois. My father used to own a early 70's hustler wildcat that was a factory comp boat that had a floor put in it at one time and turned to a pleasure boat. Search for my username on YouTube and you will find a video of it. None the less, that is a sweet piece of history right there.

Re: Pipkorn Hustler / craigslist
I wonder if its just the name of the marine dealer cause the original builder of hustler boats is out of McHenry Illinois. I will find the link and post it.

Maybe kin did work with Howard cause now that I think about it I think I have heard Jims name mentioned with something to do with Howard at one time. I could be way wrong here. Maybe a different Jim.
I am going to pass this along to Jim and ask him about it and hopefully i hear back.

Re: Pipkorn Hustler / craigslist
Allright! I couldn't resist, so I called the guy in the ad. His name is Lyle Sandvig and he happens to belong to the Gopher Chapter of the Antique Outboard Motor Club. He also gave me permission to share this info with ya'll.
Lyle knows Howard and showed him the boat less than two years ago at a meet. Howard said that there were only about 21 made. The boats were built with the intention of racing. Howard's race driver, **** Carteen (spelling?) raced a boat like this with a 100hp outboard.
**** is still around and reportedly had a blast driving this boat last year.
Lyle called the this a cup hull. It looks like a tunnel from the front but it is flat toward the transom area.
This jewel is a 16 footer and the motor is running. What a piece of history...hope someone who will appreciate it, buys it.

Re: Pipkorn Hustler / craigslist
I have a 69 Switzer Shooting Star with a 1500XS running an SSM lower on it, Very similar hull type, a front tunnel, back is flat. Carlson also had a similar style. First early tries at air entrapment. It's an old school blast does about 84 but, you need a mile or so to get to speed, rock solid at speed, a porposing horror show till you get above 45. If this package was closer I'd be all over it.

OOOPPPS forgot to mention Switzers were made in McHenry Illinois so maybe that is what people are remembering what came out of McHenry.
